Config-It-All / "CIA"
"Multi-System Configuration and Reboot Utility"
BOISE, ID. - Bourbaki, Inc. announces the release of Config-It-All (aka "CIA"),
a simple utility system for creating and editing multiple system configurations
based on variations on the AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files. Install the CIABOOT
program in AUTOEXEC files to provide a menu of the different configuration
options when the system boots.
Thanks to the increasing use of networks, Windows, RAM disks, TSRs, "multi-user
Laptops," etc., often users need to boot the system using entirely different
system configurations. Sometimes you want TSRs or different device drivers
loaded, or things configured for the network, for Windows, a background FAX
board, a CD ROM drive, mainframe access or remote access...
Config-It-All provides a simple and easy to implement solution to this problem.
The "CIA" system consists of two programs. The CIA module is used for
configuration. Its dual window editor enables you to create and edit "matched
sets" of your AUTOEXEC.bat and CONFIG.sys files, and then save them as
different "named" configurations in CIA's database file. Save the
"configurations" as text files for backup purposes. You can also assign
passwords to the different configurations that you create.
The CIABOOT program can be installed in the different AUTOEXEC files to
provide a menu of the different options, when you boot the computer. The
system will timeout and proceed with the current configuration, if you do not
select a different one. The timeout duration can be specified as a command
line parameter.
Both programs conform to text based GUI standards, are fully mouse driven, and
provide context specific help for all options. In the editing mode, help is
provided on many of the most often used DOS commands in the AUTOEXEC and
CONFIG files.
With DOS 6.0, expanded memory managers, and the ability to "load high,"
RAM cram isn't the problem it once was. However, zeroing in on an optimal
set up can be a meticulous trial and error process - sequences, parameters...
CIA's dual windows and multi-configuration capability are perfect for creating,
trying out and keeping track of a series of "test" configurations.
Config-It-All runs on all IBM PC, AT, 3270/AT, PS/2, and compatible machines.
It is compatible with all networks, including Novell Netware, IBM Token Ring,
3COM, Banyan Vines, Alloy, Community DOS/DEC Net, Multi-Link Advanced, and
others.
Config-It-All requires DOS 2.XX, or higher (including DOS 6.0), 256K available
memory, and a hard disk (Systems w/ two 720K 3.5" drives are also acceptable).
Config-It-All is fully operational with a Microsoft compatible mouse.
Config-It-All retails for $39.00 and is available direct from Bourbaki.
